The Sicily region is among the top six destinations in Italy for long holidays, lasting more than 4 days, with a boom in foreign presences. In the summer months of 2023, almost 80 thousand more hires in Sicilian companies are estimated on the island, of which 20 thousand in the tourism sector. This is what emerges from the Economic Observatory of Confartigianato Sicilia which highlights how there is actually a significant recovery in the tourism sector with 16 thousand artisan businesses operating in activities affected by tourist demand. An aspect that concerns businesses of various kinds, from artistic craftsmanship to clothing, wellness centers, but also restaurants, pizzerias, bars, pastry shops, farmhouses. July ends with double-digit growth for the Falcone Borsellino international airport: passengers in transit were in fact over 971 thousand, or +21% compared to July last year, when there were 802,439. There was also a leap forward for flights, which numbered 6,482, i.e. 15.4% more than in the same period of 2022 (5,517). In the statistics released by Gesap, the traffic diverted to Palermo from Catania between 17 and 31 July is also taken into consideration: there were 369 movements and approximately 50 thousand passengers. Which caused quite a few inconveniences in the Palermo airport. In the first seven months of this year, over 4,574,129 passengers passed through Falcone Borsellino (+14.69% on January-July 2022, when there were 3,988,160).
