A total traffic of over 23 million passengers in 2024, with an increase of approximately 13 percent compared to the previous year. This is the data on Sicilian airports reported by Assaeroporti, the Italian Association of Airport Managers, in the final report published today. In particular, among the ten busiest airports in Italy are Catania, in fifth place, with 12,346,530 passengers; and Palermo, in ninth place, with 8,921,833 passengers. “The numbers speak for themselves, Sicily is flying high. A flattering performance – comments the regional councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility Alessandro Aricò – which was also possible thanks to the work of the Schifani government which invested in the modernization of the island’s airports and which activated an incisive policy to combat the high cost of flights, which over 500 thousand Sicilians have joined, receiving discounts of up to 50 percent of the cost of the ticket. For the Christmas holidays alone, for example, the bonus brought thousands of citizens home who preferred to fly to return to Sicily to their loved ones”.
