In the two Sicilian airports, the passenger growth trend continues in the first months of 2025
The growth trend of passenger traffic at Palermo Falcone Borsellino International Airport continues.
According to data released by Gesap, the management company of the Palermo airport, 815,545 travelers passed through in April, +3.06% compared to April 2024 (791,308). An increase of 1.36% in flights (5,526 compared to 5,452 in April 2024). The average number of passengers per flight is also growing: 148 compared to 145 last year. In addition, there were 277 thousand travelers on international flights, or 26% of the total passengers.
In the first four months of 2025, Palermo airport totals 2,373,960, +6.30% on January-April 2024 (2,233,306) and +2.45% of flights (16,330 compared to 15,940 in 2024). Average passengers per flight 145 compared to 140 in 2024. Traffic estimates indicate that about 900 thousand passengers are expected in May.
Catania Airport is also doing well. In April, the total number of passengers at the airport exceeded last year’s by 2.7%: from 1,071,178 to 1,100,685.
International passengers showed particularly significant growth, reaching 454,147 transits, an increase of 8.2%. The busiest domestic routes were Rome Fiumicino with 164,919 passengers, Milan Malpensa with 93,342 and Bologna with 51,282, while among the international routes, Malta stands out with 30,563, Munich with 26,633 and London Gatwick with 25,602. Numbers that suggest it is possible to exceed the passenger record reached last year.
