Militello Val di Catania has been elected Borgo dei Borghi 2025, Gibellina will be the Capital of Contemporary Art 2026
Great success for Sicilian villages that win two prestigious awards.
Militello Val di Catania won first place as Borgo dei Borghi 2025, a contest linked to the Kilimangiaro program, broadcast on Rai3. The victory came thanks to the town’s Baroque heritage but also for the naturalistic value of the Cascate dell’Oxena.
Militello Val di Catania is therefore added to the list of Sicilian villages that, over the years, have won this important contest that gives visibility and tourist attractiveness: Montalbano Elicona (in the province of Messina), Petralia Soprana and Gangi (in the province of Palermo) and Sambuca di Sicilia (in the province of Agrigento).
Gibellina, in the province of Trapani, has been named Capitale Italiana dell’Arte Contemporanea 2026, an honor conferred by the Ministry of Culture in what was the first edition of this award. A symbol of resilience and creativity, Gibellina beat the other finalist cities (Carrara, Gallarate, Pescara and Todi), winning a state contribution of one million euros with which to organize cultural projects with exhibitions, festivals and reviews.
We will talk in depth about these splendid Sicilian towns in the next issues of Amazing Sicily Magazine!
