The celebrations for the 400th Festino di Santa Rosalia do not stop: a video mapping illuminates the Quattro Canti for Christmas while the summer event receives important recognition
In Palermo it is the year of Santa Rosalia. The patron saint of the city was celebrated in a sumptuous way for the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the miraculous body, with a calendar full of events that does not stop even at Christmas. At the Quattro Canti, in fact, from December 9th to January 6th, a video mapping dedicated to the patron saint of Palermo will illuminate the square. The project, entitled “Teatro di Luce”, aims to color the facades of Piazza Vigliena with light, while in the center of the square there will be a four-sided backlit totem that will display the photos of the exhibition “Palermo Rifiorisce con Rosalia”.
This is just the latest of the events for the 400th “Festino”, which beings on July 14 with the title “La speranza siamo noi”. The procession of the “Santuzza” float took place in 5 acts: the first, at Palazzo dei Normanni, entitled “ Nelle tenebre nasce la speranza “, saw the city wrapped in a veil of darkness and silence, a place abandoned by hope that recalled the period in which the plague scourged Palermo; in the second, in front of the Cathedral, entitled “ La Speranza si rivela “, the float was unveiled, while the city was freed from darkness, with the trio Il Volo who performed from the roof of the cathedral; the third, at the Quattro Canti, entitled “ La Speranza Rifiorisce “, led to the transformation of the triumphal float, in the presence of the four co-patrons of the city, Santa Cristina, Santa Ninfa, Santa Oliva and Sant’Agata; the fourth, at Porta Felice, entitled “ La Speranza siamo Noi “, saw the city transform into an explosion of light and joy; the fifth, at the Foro Italico, entitled “ Santa Rosalia guarda al futuro!”, was represented by light and a show of color and luminous joy, with spectacular fireworks lasting an hour.
The Festino di Santa Rosalia has been awarded as one of the best major international events of 2024. In the final of the BEA World Grand Prix, the competition of international events in which 460 of the most important initiatives in the world participated, the 400th Festino reached the podium twice. Nominated by Balich Wonder Studio (which produced it together with the Odd Agency for the Municipality of Palermo), it ranked second in the Culture section, usually preceded by the multimedia festival dedicated to painting that took place in the main cities of Poland, and came third in the general ranking. An extraordinary result that further underlines the importance that the Festino di Santa Rosalia has for the city of Palermo and the commitment made to celebrate this important anniversary in the best possible way.
